Reflection - The Visitation of the Gods
The Visitation of the Gods
by: Gilda Cordero-Fernando
The short
narrative explores the reality of the demise of Filipino idealism in public
school administration. It demonstrates the challenges of maintaining motivation
and enthusiasm in raising the country's educational standards. It draws
attention to the officers' inspections, which serve as judges of the teachers'
and schools' ratings for efficacy.
The narrative also demonstrates how the exercise can be used as a tool to discipline disobedience by giving the most challenging and tough assignments to the teachers and students who are least popular. The tale also reveals the competitive mindset of the Filipinos. One's efforts to advance personally and professionally might occasionally be interpreted as a threat to another man's position or authority. It would probably be perceived as "showing off" instead. Unfortunately, the conflicting interests affect more than just the parties directly involved; it frequently affects the entire faculty, which in turn leads to polarization in the workplace.
